Hi,

Need some advice urgently. I am a position of obtaining a PowerLogix
800Mhz G3 ZIF way below what has been selling for. I need to know (Will)
if you see this , if you think I can use it in my PowerLogix Z Force
adapter Card that purchased earlier this year or can it be used in a
XLR8 Mach Carrier G3 card? I need advice on this as I have to give the
individual that is willing to sell it an answer quickly before he
decides to put it up for sale on eBay.

Anyone that can give me a solid answer will be appreciated.

Richie B.

First off that was Jeff W that answered your reply and not me ;-)
Just a quick report:
Here is what I can tell you. I am interested in this upgrade myself but haven't yet bought one. I am in contact with two brave people who have bought them. This is what I can tell you based on two peoples results. Solid answers well I think you are out of luck. As far as talking directly with Powerlogix... I'll say this for them Sonnet their not to their credit! At this point mostly they will say try it and if you can't get it to work we will refund your money within 30 days. We can't offer any tech support on this unsupported install. My questions have been passed on to the engineering department but I've not yet heard back. Buying from another person you clearly don't have the 30 day warranty.
Powerlogix G3 800MHz Zif used with a XLR8 carrier card. In a Powertower Pro machine. After much tinkering it runs well at 810 MHz with a bus speed of 45 MHz. He was able to get it to run as fast as 867 MHz with a bus of 61.9 MHz. Not many machines besides the PowerTower Pro will run at that fast a bus speed. Apple machines seem happiest at apox 50 MHz. My J700 runs as fast as 61 MHz bus but I wouldn't want to push that hard for regular use . There were issues with RAM and the Carriers heat sink. The Powerlogix Zif is a bit thicker so the clip for the heat sink doesn't fit. This guy made his own heat sink using something from a PC I believe no details. He solved the RAM issues by not running his RAM interleaved. Also lowering the speed worked. Many people with older RAM may have to buy the new 128 MB sticks or at least not count on using the old 70ns RAM the machines came with when new. He is very happy with the upgrade.
Zif 2 G3 900MHz Apple 9500 in a XLR8 Carrier card. It worked out of the box but slower then he wanted. Some playing around ( he's had it 2 days tops so you are getting very early info) and it's running at I think 867 MHz and since he was hoping for 1 GB he's not thrilled but that is likely an unreasonable expectation. His fix for the heat sink was to attach a wire from the end of the clip to the ZIF hold down ;-) RAM seems ok but could be the reason for not working at higher speeds. I'm not sure this person has the skill nor if he's willing to take the time to figure things out based on our emails.

So that's the current cutting edge info . While I am willing to help not everyone is cut out to do these sorts of upgrades. I am also not as willing to spend a lot of time helping strangers after the Sapphire card flashing which took up way to much of my time. I was going to save this report until I had more complete info to share. But it sounds like you needed to know now.
I see no reason why the powerlogix carrier card wouldn't work as well as the XLR8 card though it has less bus settings if I remember correctly.
I can give some more details on settings in future when the time comes but this project is far from exact nor complete. More like an unfinished project in works. Other work is calling out to me,later.
