I know I've read troubleshooting advice on this topic, but I couldn't find
much in the archives. I've had Jaguar 10.2 running nicely on my S900/G3
400, with the exception of a weird but minor TCP/IP issue.

I downloaded and tried to install the 10.2.6 combo upgrade, now I get the
blue screen & the system doesn't finish booting.

Following the advice I found in the archives, I booted into single user
mode, then ran fsck -y. It fixed a few things, so I ran it again till it
reported AOK. I exited, but it still gets stuck at the blue screen.

Anything I can try before re-installing the original 10.2?

Thanks,

Charles

This happened to me after installing the 10.2.5 update using the software auto update. Never again, I always download the Combo updates and install . Several guys I trust say this is the best way! I've just installed the 2nd addition of the 10.2.8 combo update. No problems and in fact I see no differences at all! (from 10.2.6)
But as you see things can and do sometimes screw up! Reasons are often never known... On to fixes.
1. If you have Disk Warrior run that from OS 9.x and try fixing the Jaguar drive. If you don't have it put it on your Christmas list or what ever list it takes to get it. It is a must have item. If you only have one utility that is the one.
2. Also try restarting and running fsck -y several times force re-staring if need be from the blue screen.
3. if all else fails you can do a re-install of 10.2. It's not as bad as it sounds. This is what I ended up doing when 10.2.5 screwed my drive up. I learned a trick about re-installing Jaguar from a friend. It is sort of like the old clean install of OS 8/9.x When you get the install screen don't wipe your drive and start over. Find the options: choice maybe at the top of the screen?? I've only done this once ;-) Chose:Archive & install. This option saves all your settings and your user files which includes all your apps and email etc. It even saves your internet settings! The only got-U is jaguar is a hog for disk space and on my machine demands 1.9GB of space to do an install though it only uses a very small fraction of that once it's done. So to give it what it needed I booted into OS 9.1 and moved personal files and apps off the Jaguar disk so it had the space it needed. This is only an issue if your short on drive space and Jaguar will tell you how much more room it needs to do the install when you push the install button. I hope this works for you and then if I were you I'd download 10.2.8 combo and go for it.
I've been running OSX for a number of years now since the developer only days. I've been OSX only since Jaguar came out Sept 02! The only other real pain was sorting out RAM issues and Disk Warrior has saved me many times. The version 2 is really slow on the Jaguar disk from OS 9 but v. 2.1 is faster. Version 3 boots the OSX version using XPFacto 3.0 alpha 3 and is really fast! Panther is just around the corner but XPFacto isn't quite ready for it . Ryan is hard at work doing his best !
Best of luck I hope this helps. Will S
