Thanks Shawn, Alan Kim and SAM346372 correctly advising me to Rebuild
the Desktop by using the Command-Option keys.

I mistakenly had the opinion that TTP would perform that function in
it's suite of tools. But apparently that is not so. However thanks to
you guys for putting me straight.

This freebie, goodwill job is done successfully.

If my brain deteriorates any more I will have to give up these jobs. I
used to go a month without doing a "dumb thing" and now it seems I do
 about one a day ;-(.

Thanks again.

Replied:

TTP does not rebuild the desktop. It deletes all the desktop files,
then you reboot thereby forcing the system to rebuild the desktop.
Snip:

This function of TTP is under the "desktop" in the left panel and has
to be done manually. It is not part of the auto run.

And: David Nuzum <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Also Replied:
TechTool Pro will rebuild the Desktop in its suite of tools,
however, you must select this function.

Then Jeff Walther <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Replied:

Tech Tool Pro does have a "Rebuild the Desktop" function. It's just
not that easy to find, IMO. Actually, I find where they put it to
be downright cryptic.

Okay, maybe not so cryptic. There's an item in the "Navigation"
window called "Desktop". If you double click on it, you get the
options to manipulate the desktop including "Delete/Rebuild". For
some reason, I always have a hard time scrolling down far enough to
see that option. I get distracted by "files" and "drives" and such
before I get that far.

Thanks to Derf, David and Jeff.

My experience must be similar to Jeff's. I never noticed it and have in the past wondered how they did it.
Since as David added:
The free version of TechTool also will rebuild the Desktop. In fact that is >its primary function.
I have used the free version since the beginning. As I said it is getting to at least one "Dumb Thing" per day.

Thanks again,

ernie
