SuperMac-kers,
I'm new to the list, so I thought I'd run this past the collective
genius. I recently purchased a SuperMac J-700 on ebay ($10 + $35
shipping!). It arrived Monday sans keyboard (that's okay, I have an
upgraded C-500 and an old Mac Classic which I can raid), but more
importantly, it came with apparently a wiped hard drive. When I boot the
computer, I get either the floppy disk icon and a question mark or if I try
to boot the computer with a OS install disk while holding down the "C"
button, I get a blank screen & frozen mouse. It's as if the computer
doesn't know the hard drive is there. When the computer boots, you can hear
the hard drive spin for a few seconds and then nothing. Of course, it has
been wiped clean, then maybe there's no reason to keep spinning. The
individual that sold me the computer stated that "thecomputer need to have
an operating system installed," so I'm assuming that the hard drive is bare.
I have an external firewire HD enclosure, but since the hard drive is a
SCSI, I have no means of checking the HD to see if it's okay. Any idea why
I can't get the computer to boot from a CD? Could I check the hard drive
via the SCSI port on the back of the C-500? Any help you may offer would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks!
