Thanks John. I tried this with no luck. I'm still working on it. (1) How about a disk utility ? like Norton Utilities or HD Speed Tools...you could start from that maybe & rule out a bad HD. (2) possibly check the SCSI chain assignments... long shot but couldn't there be a ID conflict? (3) Is there a RAM issue? 1) Thanks for the suggestion, Alan. I'll dig around and see if I still have an old floppy of Norton. 2) Would you care to expound upon this? I'm listening. . .The scsi cable starts at the HD, goes to an open male plug (I'm guessing for a slave hard drive. . .), then to the CD-ROM, then the motherboard. The seller sent me some extra cables, some maybe I should try one. 3) I've added an additional 512 meg of fpdram interleaved on slots A1, A2, B1 and B2 in addition to the original 88 meg that were already on there. Should I remove this new ram and try and load the OS? 4) Richard Tarbell suggests that I try to locate an original SuperMac/UMAX OS CD or try back dooring it through the external scsi port. These suggestions make sense to me, but I'm out of my element here. Comments, anyone? 5) I've got a line on a factory refurbished Seagate SCSI hard drive for $10 (19 gig). They're also offering 80 pin to 50 pin cables for $15. Do you think this will work? It's certainly cheap enough! Thanks again for the input and suggestions from everyone.
