Since I haven't followed this thread closely my comments may not have
any relevance...

I have a Sonnet Tempo ATA 66 card running a 60gb IBM drive that worked
flawlessly from day-1 except for the drive failure and resulting
warranty replacement, but that's another story.
After the replacement, no problems.
(Sonnet in slot 2.)
Additional storage at a reasonable cost was my main criteria and driving
other peripherals such as CD burners, etc. was not a factor.

The reason for this post, however, is to encourage you to look into an
external firewire (400) drive.
Except for needing to tweak down the throughput speed a notch, it has
been basically plug and play and a very good external storage alternative.
I chose this option (a 60gb EZQuest) instead of a slave drive on the
Sonnet so I would have an external storage that could serve other
machines, especially when there isn't a network available.
Although not bootable (in general) on our machines, prices have dropped
steadily on the external firewire drives and enclosures.
(The non-bootablility was never an issue for me when I was shopping
around for external firewire drives.)

Gotta go make waffles for the family.
