You can use your S-900 as a Localtalk to Ethernet bridge.  That's what I do
to allow printing to a Localtalk Laserwriter from both my S900 and
girlfriend's imac.

The two computers are connected via Ethernet and a router to a cable modem,
and just the S-900 is conneced via a serial cable to the Laserwriter. As
long as the S900 is on, the iMac can print to it too.

Doing it the way I state above just takes the free Localtalk Ethernet Bridge
software, available from Apple.

If you buy a hardware bridge, I don't think you will gain much if any speed,
because the computers still communicate with the printer over a slow
AppleTalk serial cable connection between the printer and bridge.

The only benefit that the hardware bridge gives is that you wouldn't need to
turn on the S900 every time you wanted to print something from the G4. I've
also noticed that my S900 takes a small performance hit while something is
being printed through it from the iMac, mouse gets slightly jerky, lag in
opening windows, etc.

You might as well try the free solution first:
