Dear List,

I am still stumped by the Hewlett Packard Drive with SCA Adaptor that
arrived from E-bay in place of the new Wide Fujitsu that I thought was
going to replace a SCSI Drive that had gone bad in an old 7200 that one of
my son's friends gave me. I am now thinking of installing it in one of two
S-900's but I would appreciate any help the list could give. Again the
Specs are Hewlett Packaard Ultra 160 SCSI/SCA2/LVD. Does anyone know this
drive? On the back it shows eight pins, ID0, ID1, ID2, ID3, Wrote Prot,
Start CMd, Narrow/Wide, DiffSense. The jumper pins are on the second pin
from the left (as I look at the front of the drive), which I assume is the
Narrow/Wide (but maybe I am reading backwards). Jumpers are packaged for
the SCA Adapater ID setting which shows fifteen different possibilities.
But I Has anyone used the SCA ADaptor that come with these 80 to 68 I have
a vague sense of how to install a wide board as I have a Miles with an
external SCSI LVD in one S-900, but no sense of how to install the SCA
Adapter. I see the eight pins for the jumpers with ID0, ID1, ID3, MTP, DLY,
SYN, LED. There are four shiny steel pins in a white plastic box on the
left side of the back of the SCA Adaptor (the side with the fifty pins and
the sixty eight pin plugs, with the eight jumper pins. What are they for?
I don't really understand any of this. I know I have to set a SCSI
number for one of the unused ones, but how to do that both on the drive and
SCA Adaptor remains a puzzle.
Is a fan an absolute for this drive alongside the regular SCSI
Drive in the S-900?
MacResQ is selling an Apple Adaptec 2940U2B Ultra Wide SCSCI board for 49
dollars. I wonder if this is a good match for the Hewlett Packard. I was
impressed with the Miles i put in one of my two S900's and so I am tempted
to play with this.

        Mark
