Hello,

Have recently read some posts regarding FW cards, etc. I have been using a
ORangeLink FW/USB combination card, that has had some problems. The USB side
works flawlessly as I have never had any problems with it and have
successfully connected a printer, ZIP drive and web cam to it.

Whereas the external FW drive has given me many problems with this card.
Mostly I can copy to the drive without any problems, but copying from the
drive is very troublesome and often locks the computer requiring a reboot to
get the system back. I have tested the drive on another mac and there were
no problems. Also I have had some strange experiences capturing from an
external digital camera. Under 8.6 I had few problems, since going to 9.1 I
have not been able to successfully capture from within FCP or Premiere.
Usually locks up the machine as soon as i try.

I have read a post that suggested using HDST to reduce Max Payload Size and
Max Data Transfer Size. I tried to do this but got an error message from
HDST when I tried to take over the drive. "Sorry, the partition map on this
device does not conform to the Inside Mac Vol. 5 specification. Your disk
has not been touched."

Is it worth re-formatting the drive with HDST and applying the changes to
Max Payload Size and Max Data Transfer Size or is the ORangeLink FW/USB card
known to have issues with FW, the card sits in slot 2, and a Radeon 7000 in
slot 1. No other slots are being used.

I have the following FW extensions:
FireWire CardBus Enabler 1.0.1
FireWire Enabler 2.4
FireWire OrangeLink PC Card 1.14
FireWire Support 2.4
HDST FireWire Support 3.0

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Greg G
