Hi Jacqueline, Although OS 9.1 itself is as solid as a rock, the installer CD-ROMs have been randomly flaky. The most common problem has been a freeze-up during installation, but corrupted installations have been reported as well as a handful of defective media. The latter were pulled almost immediately so I doubt very much this is the case. Just the same, check for scratches, flecks of dust, gaps in the foil, etc. The cause has never been determined and the only solution is to erase the volume--no need to reformat unless you aren't sure it was done properly before the installation, and even then a quick format is adequate if you know the drive is in good shape--and try again. If you installed something else or over an older version of Mac OS, I strongly recommend backing up, reformating, and starting fresh. Hope your New Year has been othersie good so far.
