Oh. Duh. Slaps self in forhead. There's a known issue with all of the Radeon 7000s of not displaying anything in OSX in a Beige G3 until well beyond the startup screen. I think this was solved in the latest OSX just recently. Hmmm. But didn't you write that you were using a B&W? <Shakes head, stumbles away puzzled.> I'm going to have to make a flow chart or something to keep track of this.
