What's the latest buzz about Alchemy-C600 support in XPF? I just finished Ryan's log and the Mac models table and it seems he was initially saying he had a problem with original OEM components working--native video, ethernet. But my C600 has an Asante ethernet card plus an ATI Rage Pro video card plus the Sonnet G3 card. Where are we at here?

There is no latest buzz on the Alchemy support in XPF,sorry. Ryan has the good intentions of working on support for these machines and others. However just about the time he has time to start working on this and other issues Apple releases a new upgrade which ends up taking up all of his time. Panther by far has taken the most time to work the kinks out. Several months later he's still working on it. With Apples dropping the beige G3 for Panther there is no old world support left in OSX. So Ryan has to add it all back in. Word is 10.4 may well drop the B&W machines from Apple support. So I've no idea when Ryan will have the time to develop L2 software for these machines. Sonnet spent sometime on it and gave up.
Having said all that list member Nils has Jaguar running really well on his C600 machine. However he has a Phase 3 G3 Zif upgrade which is the key. Mactell and Newtech also made G3 Zif upgrades for these machines. I'd say the Sonnet G3 is what is holding your machine back at this point. Sorry I don't have better news. At this point you could buy a S900/J700 Umax for less then a hundred dollars and run Jaguar. It runs really well on these machines. Panther is more iffy depending on hardware. SCSI doesn't run well with Panther even on Apple supported machines. All Apple supported machines were of course IDE/ATA machines though you could add SCSI as a build to order option. Sorry I don't have better news. Will S
