Several readers got burned buying DVR-A06/106s from some dealers on the web, instead of getting the standard drive model (reported as "DVR-106D"), they got the (unsupported) "DVR-106RD" model (the Acer OEM version - there's also some dealers selling a "RA" or other suffix version as well and this tip would apply to them also).
Personally I'd return it if possible (but that may not be possible - or cost a 15% or more restocking fee plus shipping at many dealers - if they will take a return).
If you're stuck with it - a reader sent a tip on reflashing the drive to a std model. It requires some work and access to a real PC to flash it - but see the Nov 3rd www.xlr8yourmac.com news page for details and links.
