Hi Elliot. Your problem is easy to explain. In 8.6 the CD is driven by the FWB drivers that came with the Supermac, as it was an "unsupported" drive as defined by Apple. When you installed OS9.1, the Apple Drivers worked for the install and continued to work until you shut the computer down. Upon restart in OS9.1 the computer found a non Apple rom'ed CD which the OS9.1 CD drivers would not support. TheFWB driver would not work in OS9.1 either, as it needs an $ upgrade to a newer version for OS9.1. Before you spend the money read the archive posts for the available hacks to the driver software.
