Hi,

I've just found out that 16mb IX Micro Ultimate Rez video cards won't work
with a G4 Sonnet upgrade card over 450 mhz. This is bizarre, because --
though people tell me it's not possible -- I had that card working a month
or so ago before the drive failed. Okay, it's not working now and I accept
that the world has changed. Why, I don't know, but it apparently has.

I need to go to a more robust video card, and the next choice is the Radeon
7000, with 32mb. I can get one off eBay for about $70. That's okay, except
that...

The documentation clearly states that if you want to run OSX, you must have
at least a Blue & White G3. That's a problem, as one machine is an S900, and
the other is a 9600. So...

1. I either go with the Radeon 7000 and stick with OS9, or...

2. Buy a 64mb PC version of the Radeon 7000 and reflash it. I know that this
can be done and have seen the instructions, but I also know that there is
risk involved. The cost of the 64mb PC card is about the same, $70.

If you've followed along this far, I need some advice.

-- Have you ever seen a workaround that allows an S900 to run the Radeon
7000 and OSX?

-- Have you had a positive experience with reflashing?

Are there yet other solutions?

Otherwise, it seems that I'm stuck in OS9.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Jerry
