Hi folks: I thought I had been paying attention to the significant amount of postings last fall re: the ATA card upgrade path and various issues surrounding certain cards (a quick look at my archive shows there was still some uncertainty). At any rate, I decided to pick up a Tempo ATA133 as I need the extra drive space with the new Mac OSX install and apps.
Some disappointing problems I thought this card wouldn't have: 1) It does appear to have the "first 8GB" requirement for OSX install. 2) I have not been able to boot OS9.1 installed on it. 3) Attached my Pioneer A05 DVD-R drive to the card and it locks up the computer with the gray screen while booting (similar to a SCSI ID or termination issue). I tried something a little risky and hooked up the DVD-R to the card just as I was booting from XPost Facto into OSX and the drive was recognized! - in fact, I was able to back up my entire OSX partition using Retrospect. Unfortunately, I don't want to do this every time I boot from XPost Facto into OSX (probably >not< a good idea). Anyone have some suggestions? (PS the drive is an 80GB IBM Deskstar formatted with OS9.2.2 drive setup in my S900). -- Gregg -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
