I was hoping for some info on Speakeasy as well. Sounds like no one is using it. Possible advantages if the service is good:
They encourage sharing of your internet service. Even to the point of setting up a WiFi network and charging your neighbors to use it! I'd like to do this not to make money but to share the cost. I live in a very urban neighborhood where this should be easy to do. I also manage and live in a small apt building. Wifi could be a service I offer to renters!
They also use Covad to support the DSL service. They are one of very few companies that provide there own Wires for DSL rather then using the local Telco to provide wires. Normally Covad service is used by businesses and is very expensive. Speakeasy seems to be the first company with service in my area which is selling DSL Covad service for the same price as regular DSL. Advantages of Covad service: Service available at distances the Telco's don't support and much faster DSL speeds. Speakeasy offers 6 MB download service way faster then anyone else and also 1.5 MB service for nearly the same price as Telco DSL 256kb !
