No S900 configuration from Umax ever shipped with an internal modem, though there were a few promos that came with an external modem (either a Global Village Teleport or E-Tech Gold Edition external). Generally these came with the J700 only, but there may have been some promos towards the end of '98 when we or our resellers were just throwing them in with everything. Internal modems for PPC 604-based Macs of the SuperMac era were generally very hard, if not nearly impossible, to come by. Internal CommSlot-II modems, on the other hand, were fairly common in both Umax and Apple's 603-based machines, like the Performa 6300 or SuperMac C600. There may be some unique cable issues between printer and modems -- I can't think that far back -- but either port can host a modem. The difference is that the printer port has a very small (16K?) buffer and will support AppleTalk. The modem is unbuffered, will not support AppleTalk, and is intended for modems only. -Kennedy http://home.earthlink.net/~supermac_insider/ -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
