You are to be commended for the upgrades you've done, but I doubt the $1000 asking price is realistic. Purchased in 1998, the box is "written off", has a 50MH Bus and rather small power supply. I think your best hope of the gains you desire would be parting it out. The fact you spent lots to upgrade it doesn't mean you'll get lots for your efforts, unless you find a very special buyer. I bought mine new in late '98, shortly before the demise of the supermac line.
Still have the box/styrofoam and everything that came in it.
It has been a workhorse that gave me little trouble and accepting whatever I added to it over the years.
But because of my decision to keep it at 9.1 and not beyond, the time came to take the plunge into X at Panther and recently started buying 'new' units from Apple's refurbished site.
As is the case with many folks hanging onto our aging supermacs, the time comes when it feels right to make the move.
In order to have a faster OS 9 machine, first we got a 1.25 ghz G4 256/80/combo and added two 512 mb sticks.
It came with Panther already installed.
For $1,100 for the machine, it's perfect for us as a dual boot unit as I don't care too much for the Classic mode for running some of our boys' learning CDs.
Several days ago arrived a DP 2.0 512/160/superdrive G5, also refurbished, which I ordered after having time to scrutinize the RevB G5 models that were announced. It also got an additional 1 gb of RAM.
The s900 ?
It will be contained in a well-ventilated sound deadening box (because I want to build the box as a project) and set up with my ADB Wacom tablet for my sons to use.
It has 1 gb of RAM and plenty of power to handle anything they might throw at it.
It will also be networked to the DSL router and become a dedicated scanning station for my SCSI film scanner which is happier in 9.1.
Anyway, the ride on OS 8 through 9.1 was smooth in retrospect.
Let's hope I can get as much longevity out of the G4/G5, which by the way....cost the SAME combined as what I paid for my dear and trusted s900 !!
