I welcome those more knowledgible to jump in but it is my understanding
that you need to use a program like Retrospect or Silverlining to do a
proper backup- they find and move the "invisible" files also. You can't
reformat a partition, only an entire drive, so you need to back up all
partitions on that drive. I just purchased a OS9 version of Norton
Systemworks at OWC for under $12 which came with Retrospect. I don't
think this older version would work on OSX code? I would run Discwarrior
before anything else and see what happens from there. I believe you'll
have to run the new version on your OSX and the older version on your
OS9.1&2 partitions, but I could be mistaken. You can write your backups
to CD with Retrospect, or to another drive. I always keep one drive
available for this use. Your Firewire one would work nicely. Paul C
