user manual isn't any use. D-Link provides a MacOS 9 driver for this adapter,
but it's not working unless the system can recognise this card. (The card is
OK because it was working fine in a PC before.)
The built-in ethernet port of the Umax is actually on a riser card, but I
cannot remove it because it also contains the printer and modem ports. I
suspect if I can somehow inactivate the built-in ethernet port, the system
might recognise the D-Link card. There's probably a jumper somewhere I need
to set, but I have no idea where. I've tried deep zapping the PRAM, and
pressing the reset button on the motherboard without avail. I've also tried
shuffling the D-LInk card around the PCI slots.

Just because the card was working in a PC beforehand, doesn't guarantee that
it will work with the Mac.

D-Link makes several 10/100 Ethernet PCI cards, but I only know of _one_ of
them that is Mac-compatible.

The one that _is_ Mac-compatible is the "DFE-530TX+". The little "+" on the
end of the product ID is _very_ important, because D-Link also makes a
"DFE-530TX" card (note no "+") that DOES NOT WORK with the Mac - no drivers
for it.

Which card do you have?

As a point of information, I have used the DFE-530TX+ in both an s900 and
PowerMac 9600 without any problems (using the D-Link driver).
