The sound control panel is OK otherwise when I restart from mysecondary
drive I would not have a normal chime.
Hi Barbara;
Each start-up system has its own set of control panels. After 
starting with no chime go to Control Panels and open Monitors & 
Sound. Make sure the Computer Volume is turned up( slider to the 
right) and that Mute is not ckecked. If it is checked  click on it to 
deselect it. Then restart.
