If by alternate boots you mean from a cold start it doesn't boot, but from a restart it does(?), this would be the jumper settings on the drive. SCSI drives can be set to spin up immediately(what you need to have it recognized) or a delay startup(to save power on large server bootups). You'll need to go to the drive manufacturers website, look up the exact model and then find the jumper locations. Not a big deal once you know what you are searching for. Paul C
I have a similar problem. I have 2 SCSI HDs. One of them containing the system mounts every time I boot, the other one only mounts on alternate boots. Most odd. I asked about this before but no one had any thoughts. Now that there's another HD mounting issue around I wondered if anyone else had any ideas.
