Eric,

I could be wrong about this(and probably am), but I
thought that installing any version of X on older
machines requires that the whole OS fits in an 8 Gig
partition (or the first 8 gigs of a volume larger than
8 gigs... which I think is risky.) On a freshly erased
drive, this is easy to do since there's nothing else
in the way. But as life on the 18 gig continues and
you update the system over time, it can spread out a
bit and no longer fit in the 8 gig section.

The first time I installed Jag (266 G3), it worked
fine, but went South later. Then I got an 80 gig
drive, and decided that I'd use Xpostfacto to
facilitate moving to Panther later. XPF wouldn't allow
the install without an 8 gig partition, something
Apple's installer was happy to let me do as my machine
is still supported for Jag. Since XPF is required for
an S900, how did you get it to install?
