Guys, thanks for some sound advice. Right now I'm doing something that I was only able to do with Norton Utilities. I downloaded and purchased an app called FileSalvage 2.0. It is in progress now, and probably will be so for some 20 odd hours, retrieving files that were both deleted and/or hidden through the kind of directory or other corruption that is suspect here. At this moment it has looked through close to 1,000,000 out of over 11,000,000 files, and recovered about 184 which are being placed on another partition. What you guys said gives me hope that I might recover some of the ones that were in that folder. I'll report back on this recovery project because I think that it's important for us to know if there's something that can actually do a good job of retrieval in OSX. As far as keeping an alias on the desktop instead of the actual folder, you're absolutely right. I tried to get my granddaughter to at least drag the file to another partition as well as another networked computer every night, so that she would always have an up to date backup.

If the recovery doesn't work I'll be able to try the other solutions you suggested. I really hope that that won't be necessary.

Great! Let us know how the software works. Is it for OS X, OS 9 or both? -- Sincerely, Dennis B. Swaney
