Will, don't be sorry for your post. You just outlined what does and doesn't work and why. What more could we ask for? Thanks. With DiskWarrior, do you run the "older" version on the 8 & 9 Partitions? Can you store 9 and X data on the same partition and still use DiskWarrior-which Version? Paul C
I have found no issues using either version of DiskWarrior on either OS 9 or OSX disks. DiskWarrior like many disk utilities can not be used on the booted drive. DiskWarrior 3.x also comes with version 2.1.1 for OS 9.x drives. The big advantage of DW 3.x is speed . It is possible to boot from the DW cd in OSX using XPFacto to boot the disk from either OS 9 or X. However the L2 cache of your G3/4 isn't used so it runs much slower. I have put copies of DW on both my Jaguar and Panther partitions. So for example from Panther I can run DW on all my drive partitions (I have three hard disks and 9 partitions) It takes about 5 min to run DW on Jaguar (10GB partition) and less on the other non system partitions( OS 9.2.2 is a small partition and is also fast). I then can boot into Jaguar and run DW on Panther (10GB) again apox 5 min. While I could boot from the CD and do all the drives from one boot it takes 15-20 min for each OSX disk . Ends up taking nearly an hour or more while the first method takes maybe 15 min or so .
Booting into OS 9 and using DW 2.1.1 while much faster then the older 2.0 version it still takes nearly an hour for each OSX partition. So we are talking about 2 1/2- 3 hours to do all the partitions and OS 9 is still not done yet!
In short:
DW v3.0.2 15-20 min to run on 9 partitions on 3 hard disks ( 80GB, 40 GB and 30GB disks) ran from OSX
DW v3.02 45 min- 1 hr to run on same 9 partitions when booted from CD in OSX using XPFacto.
DW v2.1.1 over 3 hours to run on 9 partitions from OS 9.2.2
Hope this answers your question. Will S
