I have two of these optical, two-button, scrolling wheel, mice on a J700 (OS 9.1, Orangemicro USB/firewire combo card) and a G4 733. They work well on both machines. I tried to install one on my dad's G3 266 Beige tower. The software did not have any conflicts or special installation instructions for this machine. He has a Macally 4 socket USB 2 card and he has upgraded his memory to 384 MB of RAM. The instructions said to plug in the mouse once everything was installed. i plugged it in with the machine on, the dock recognized the mouse as I moved the cursor over the dock. Initially neither button on the mouse worked. When I launched OSX mail, the scrolling wheel worked, but none of the buttons worked, including the one on the wheel.
I deleted the installed software and reloaded it. The dock recognized the mouse. I right clicked on mail with the Microsoft mouse and the right button worked. When I tried to bring up a specific mail message, the buttons had stopped working.
Does anyone know of any issues with a Microsoft intellimouse with a Beige G3 Tower?
Is the hardware malfunctioning?
Thanks, Rob.
