I use an Intellimouse Optical (5 button, had 3 button white original 
and it got flaky - MS replaced with beige/silver 5 button under 
warranty) on my eMac on 10.3.7.

I use MS Mouse 5.1.
IIRC I updated the SW to the latest and it flaked out and reinstalled 
5.1 (I kept the old installer) and it works great.

What version do you have? (Select About Microsoft Mouse in menu)
