Hi,

This is a follow-up to my last post re: the error message I've been getting
when using a feature of Flash (an animation program) which involves writing
to the disk. The message is... There is a problem with the disk <name>. Some
information may have been lost. Check recently used files for missing data
and use a disk-repair utility on the disk.

I looked up an explanation of the message on Apple's site which said that it
is displayed specifically when an error is encountered writing from the disk
cache to the volume (as opposed to an error encountered saving data to
disk). Thinking my drive was defective and still being under warranty I
ordered a replacement from WG (who was very cooperative). I installed the
new drive (WG Caviar SE EIDE 120 GB 7200 8Mb attached to a SIIG Ultra ATA
133/100 Controller in the top PCI slot of an S900 running OS 9.2.2 w/ 1GB
RAM and a G4 450Mhz processor) and still get the same message. Finally I
decided to back up the data on my original 2GB SCSI that came w/ the
computer, re-initialize it and install OS9.xx and Flash and all my Flash
files on it. The program works flawlessly and I DO NOT get the error
message, but if If I try to work on any Flash files stored on the IDE drive,
I get the error message.

So It seems to be a hardware problem specific to the IDE drive and/or the
controller card. Someone I spoke w/ thought maybe the card was defective or
possibly the I/O of the configuration was too fast for my logic baoard or
maybe the card was not working properly w/ the IDE drive. As I understand I
can't relocate the card to any of the bottom four PCI slots because of PCI
to PCI bridge problems (which I forget what they were). Any ideas as to what
to do , short of buying a new computer. Or should I consider buying a modest
sized SCSI (appreciably bigger than my 2GB) to give me the performance I
need and use the IDE for backup and storage although I hate the idea of
using a device that is unreliable in some areas of performance. Any feedback
will be very much appreciated. I am so frustrated at this point. Thanks.

Elliot
