The 8GB partition rule only applies to IDE drives seen as IDE by the
machine (some, like the Acard/Sonet 66 are seen as SCSI). It would not
apply to SCSI drives. Paul C

I have 2 J700's that both used to run the Pather

either one to boot up in OSX anymore.
Does it boot into OS9? If so, then it's not thunderstorm damage to a
major component. Possibly the power went up and down a bit and the
machine was shut down by it, causing some corruption in whatever was
running at the time.
Can you boot from a CD? If so, run the OSX Disk Utility.
When using
'verbose' boot text the machine ends up not finding
the root device. A message gets displayed saying:
'Still waiting for root device'. I have been trying to
install OSX onto a 18Gig SCSI disk. I managed to
install it onto a 50gig SCSI disk but cannot boot up
from it reliably.
Don't forget the 8gig rule on these machines - you need to boot from
the first partition on the drive, and that partition MUST be 8 gigs or
smaller.
Most of the time the machine hangs
in the same spot. I have taken out the battery and
reset everything many times. I am only using SCSI Bus
1 because things get considerably worse when I connect
anything to SCSI Bus 0. I am at the end of my witts.
If anyone has any ideas. Perhaps a SCSI Bus
termination problem which always has been a mystery to
me.
Any advice is much appreciated
