I don't have another machine that it would fit in.

Bummer. Any local friends with x500, x600 or clone machines?

None that I know of. No one at the local user's group (HAAUG) has ever mentioned a Umax, but I guess I'll post a request in the forum there. Anybody on this list in the Houston area???

Just a quick reality check. I've tried all kinds of variations, but my basic
procedure now is the following. Does this sound about right?

Sounds like that would take care of the problem if the issue was corrupted NVRAM.

Have you checked to make sure that the 3.3V power supply cable is properly connected to the motherboard. Mine came loose once and older CPU cards would work fine, but newer ones wouldn't. I think the cutoff point was a PPC604/150 though and IIRC, you're using a PPC604e/200 so that is probably not your problem, but it sure would be nice if it were.

There are four cables from your power supply to your motherboard. The 3.3V cable has (at least mine does) three orange wires and three black wires.

The cable I think you are talking about has four orange and four black wires on my machine. There are a total of six pins, but the middle two have double wires going to them. Anyway, it appears to be seated snuggly. I do have a meter, although I am not very comfortable with it. Is there some way to use it to determine whether 3.3V is being delivered to the right places on the MB?
