This is a simple suggestion to, but worth a shot. If you are running purchased iTunes music on the S900 rather than stuff you copies off of your CDs and such, you might need to authorize the S900 with the Apple iTunes Music store, or it will not play the purchased tunes. If my fuzzy memory is right, I think you get to have five authorized computers for each purchased song.

The other thought has to do with your iTunes Music Folder location. If you have a Music Folder on both the G4 and the S900's external drive, that might confuse the program. You might try setting the G4's iTunes Music Folder to be that external drive connected to the S900, and see if that helps.
