I've had the same annoying font behaviour using SeaMonkey 1.1.8 and have
spent hours troubleshooting.
Did you actually *read* my comment? Please try SeaMonkey 2.0 RC 2 there,
it should work *much* better with modern systems, *including* font
display, which was *completely* rewritten.
