I noticed that when I have newsgroup MSF index files from sometime ago, and if there are a lot of expired articles / messages in the newsgroup MSF index, and then I click the link displayed in an expired message to delete all the expired articles, the MSF index file does not appear to be compacted as in a mail file would, if the mail file was compacted. But instead, the MSF index file size actually bloats after expired articles are removed. Then, when more new newsgroup headers are downloaded the MSF file size increases further.

Is anyone aware of whether there is a compact function for MSF files or is the only way to compact them simply to delete the MSF file while Seamonkey is not running, then restart SM and access the newsgroup to completely re-download all current headers? I have been using the latter procedure to reduce MSF file sizes in my newsgroup folders.

Also, I noticed that MSF and DAT files for UNSUBSCRIBED newsgroups are not deleted by Seamonkey and again I have to delete them manually. Is this by design or it is an issue that will be addressed by future SM releases?
