SYMPTOMS - Any text block copied to (Windows) clipboard in SM 2.0 Messenger
becomes the mail or news reply quoted text whenever an existing mail or
news message is replied to.

Wrong. The *selected text* becomes the quoted text. It's not a bug, it's a
feature! The only bug that could possibly be there is that selecting a word
alone is not enough; from what I see the selection must at least contain a
space with characters at both sides. I don't know whether that's on purpose
or not.

Your observation is correct. However, there was a situation where I displayed
one message, copied a block of text to the Windows clipboard, then displayed a
SECOND message (at which point the displayed message's highlight would have been
cancelled), and then replied to the second message. The quoted text in the
second message's reply became the copied text from the clipboard.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone can conveniently say that a bug which they
"like" or is "convenient" to them is a "feature". However, my definition of a
bug is anything that is non-compliant with all possible branches of intended
behaviour clearly shown in the application. In this case, there are supposed to
be only THREE possible outcomes of quoted text, as configurable in the
PREFERENCES window:

1. No quotation
2. Reply above full quotation of the e-mail replied to
3. Reply below full quotation of the e-mail replied to

Since this behaviour is not compliant with those three outcomes, that is the
definition of a bug to me, not whether the behaviour in this case happens to be
convenient for me in my use of the application or not. This particular bug can
be convenient for myself sometimes, and sometimes it is completely not the
intended outcome I would want. The application should consistently fully quote
the text of the message replied to as this has always been the case.
