Not happening here, SM 2.0.1, on Snow Leopard. The browser opens, and
it has focus.
Do you have other applications open when you open SM? Is SM set to open
with the browser, or both browser and mail/news?

Yes - iTunes, Mail, and iCal, but all running in Space #1; with SM
assigned to Space #2 along with iTunes. SM is set to open Browser only,
and I'm running Mac OS 10.6.2 on my MacBook Pro.
Caught my attention because even though the Browser opens, the Bookmarks
(and other) Menu items are grayed out until I click the Browser window
to bring it to front...even though the Menu bar does present for SM Menu
items.
...oddly enough, I've also noticed that TB 3.0 is doing the same thing;
on both my MacBook and my Intel iMac - both are running OS 10.6.2.
