I had just closed all VISIBLE Seamonkey windows.
I wanted to send an email and clicked on appropriate shortcut, whose
target was
"C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe" -mail
It brought up Profile manager and I chose appropriate profile, which
was the last one used.
It aborted saying profile was in use (didn't think to capture exact
verbiage).
Clicked Start->Turn Off Computer->Restart
Chose same shortcut and all was fine.
Was this a freak or is there an actual problem.
I've been a satisfied used since days of Netscape 4.x and only
update
"for cause". No plan to update until Seamonkey gets to>=2.1 :)

I'll have to double-check, didn't recall there were any relevant
security patches in 2.0.6 thru 2.0.8

Agreed, that's why I'm behind multiple firewalls and multiple filters
on email/newsgroups. Also a fringe benefit of being on dial-up, my IP
address is not the same between connections.
What happened to you is that the parent.lock file, which locks the
profile in use did not get deleted when you closed SeaMonkey. If it
happens again, you can avoid the restart by navigating to your
profile
folder, and deleting the file manually.
If I read you correctly, wouldn't that lose all my preferences and
email?
To avoid the issue in most cases, close SeaMonkey by choosing Using
the
file menu, rather then simply closing all the windows.

I guess I was unclear. I meant to say navigate to your profile location
and delete the parent.lock file, not the entire profile.
OK, makes sense now.
To close the program properly on Windows, click on File in the menubar,
then choose Exit. This should ensure that the program actually closes,
and that the lock file will be deleted automatically. Closing all the
windows will usually close the program, but not always, as you have
seen.
