I found the inbox when I changed to show hidden files. They aren't
marked read only.
Can I reinstall Seamonkey to maybe fix the problem and not lose anything?

Read that link above again regarding profiles. If you reinstall SM the profile is NOT touched. The program and profile (all your settings) are kept in two different locations. A reinstall does not affect your profile.

What you might want to investigate is creating a new profile and then migrating your old info (email accounts, bookmarks, passwords etc) to the new profile. Just be careful to not do a wholesale migration. If you do, you'll simply transfer any problems from the old to the new.
