I checked in 'about:config' but didn't see anything (at least that I
recognize) that will force SeaMonkey to ask for a user name as well as
a password for a news server. I also looked in the prefs.js of a an
older comp that I properly setup many, many years ago but can't
remember what I did to get it to work.

The password prompt is automatic of course but it never asks for a
user name so I am unable to log onto my news server.

No doubt this is covered somewhere but darned if I can find it.

Trying to set up version 2.0.11 on a new XP build.

Thanks,

I think you may need to add a new mail & newsgroup account with the
correct identity information?

Your_Name > Your_Email_Address > Newsgroup_server
This, I think, is where the identity submitted to the news-server is
generated from within SeaMonkey. HTH. Barry

As I said its a brand new setup (yesterday) so I did that, but I see absolutely no place to enter a user name along with the password. The only name entry is what would be displayed on a message posted to a news group and I certainly don't want to give a hacker half the info by listing a user name. I did of course munge the email address for obvious reasons, it has no relevance other than asking for bad things on news groups.
