If you mean that individual newsgroup threads are expanded within a newsgroup, that is a different issue. That is bug #232562. There is a workaround for this. Either through [Tools > Options > Advanced > Config Editor] or by editing the user.js file in your profile, set the preference variable mailnews.scroll_to_new_message to "false".
