Your last sentence gives you the answer. Firebug is not (yet) fully
compatible with SM trunk.
Expanding on that, I just found that the problem persists even if you
disable or uninstall Firebug. Fortunately I also found a workaround:
Just reset the toolbar (right click the toolbar, then from the context
menu choose Customize and in the new dialog choose Restore Default Set.
