I have Vista and Seamonkey 2.0.11. My wife has the same software on her pc.
When I try to read the Madrid attractions section (a PDF file) at
http://www.maribelsguides.com/ it loads only about half of the file,
then stops.
My wife's computer loads the whole file using Seamonkey, and my computer
loads the whole file using IE.
This makes me think the problem is not with adobe, but with the
configuration of either Vista or Seamonkey on my computer, but I have
been all through the preferences section and can find nothing that to me
sets a limit on the size of files I can open.
Any suggestions on where I should look? I already tried swapping
computers with my wife, but she caught me.
(A lurker is someone who reads the messages in a newsgroup but never
posts there. "Lurker" is NOT a disparaging, negative term. Indeed,
everyone is encouraged to lurk in a newsgroup for a while before staring
to post. Some estimates indicate there might be as many as 10 lurkers
for every individual who posts.)
A lurker in this newsgroup sent me a private E-mail. He suggests the
following (in my words):
1. Open Adobe Reader.
2. On the menu bar, select [Edit> Preferences].
3. On the left side of the Preferences window under Categories, select
Internet.
4. On the Internet pane, uncheck the "Allow fast web view" checkbox.
5. Select the OK button.
I have NOT tried this. When I reached step #4, I noticed that the
"Connection speed" selection indicated 56 Kbps, the speed of my dial-up
connection. I changed that to 1 Mbps; my cable modem supports 1.4 Mbps.
When I then went to view the hotel guide for Madrid, the entire page
downloaded to SeaMonkey in one continuous operation, unlike the way it
downloaded in my prior reply in this thread.
You might try the lurker's solution, but I suggest you also check what
Adobe Reader thinks is your connection speed.
Thank you and the lurker. I made the changes to adobe reader (including
the speed), then went to the site to check it. It loaded so quickly I
sat there for a few minutes waiting for it to start, then realized it
had already finished.
So I am all fixed and can get back to planning our trip to Spain.
