System is SM 2.0.12 on Win 7 x64 system.

Earlier today I just noticed that sometime in the recent past
my address books must have been deleted. i.e. I noticed that older
addresses in both my personal and collected addresses were gone.
I have restored older versions of abook.mab and history.mab from
backup and placed them under new names abook-xxx.mab and
history-xxx.mab in my profiles folder.
Now I'd like to know how to merge the entries in abook-xxx.mab
and history-xxx.mab into the current abook.mab and history.mab

Create the additional address books in SeaMonkey first. It will create a
separate MAB file for each address book. Then close SeaMonkey, and
replace the newly created MAB files with your backups. Make sure the
file names match the ones SeaMonkey created.

Then start SeaMonkey. The backups should appear in the address book
manager. From there, you can drag and drop all entries from one address
book to another. (Ctrl-A should select all entries, if you want to move
all of them at once.)

Thank you!
It finally worked. :-/
I started to follow your instructions. But now for the horror story!:

I created two new address books naming them abook2 and history2.
Shut down SM and started up the Windows-explorer:
It shows an abook-1.mab and an abook-2.mab . but no abook2.mab
nor history2.mab . Being a confirmed skeptic I started up the command
(DOS) process and listed the *.mab files in the profile directory.
Sure enough, same result.
I restarted SM and deleted the history2 address book:
Now SM shows: personal address book, abook2, & collected addresses
Win-ex shows: abook.mab, abook-1.mab, & history.mab

That's when I realized that the address book names in SM had no
mnemonic connection with the .mab filenames used by the OS.
Why couldn't they have named the files as (SM address book name).mab?
