It is pretty tough to figure his one out since we do not know what
application you are using.
With Mozilla based programs, once you have read the message on the
list server pressing "Reply" will send the reply back to the server
with RE: in the subject field.
Pressing "Reply-All" will send the message to the server and any
addresses listed in the message header.
I am pretty sure Outlook and Outlook Express work the same way.
Michael, I believe you're confusing replying to newsgroups with replying
to mailing list messages. As far as I'm aware SeaMonkey doesn't
automatically "Reply to List", nor provide such a function, currently.
There were such Thunderbird extensions in the past and Thunderbird has
it built-in since version 3.0 [1], but I'm not aware for any current
SeaMonkey extensions providing this function.

It depends how the list is configured. I belong to several Mailman and
Listserv mailing lists, and when I reply to posts from those lists
(which I download as POP3 messages), they go to the list when the owner
has it configured correctly. For example, one has the following in the
headers:
To: [email protected]
From: Sender Name <[email protected]>
Subject: Whatever
...
Reply-To: [email protected]
If the sender leaves Reply-To: blank, the server automatically inserts
the list address, but if the sender specifies an explicit Reply-To:
address, that is honored. In either event, when a recipient replies, the
To: field is populated with the original Reply-To: name and address. The
respondent naturally has the option of changing that if he wants to
force a public reply when the original sender specified a private
Reply-To: address, or if he wants to force a private reply to a public
message.
In our OP's case, we have:
From: Mike <[email protected]>
To: [email protected]
Subject: General list question on replies
There is no Reply-To: entry. Clearly, the OP did not specify one, and
neither did the list server. So anyone who replies will find the To:
field populated with his personal name and address (unless they're using
proper newsgroup software).
For our OP here, I suggest he create an address book listing for this
list (in his case, it would be <[email protected]>).
Then whenever he wants to reply publicly to a list message, he can
simply substitute that address for the automatically entered private
address.
Alternatively, he can use SM's built-in newsgroup reader by subscribing
to mozilla.support.seamonkey on the server news.mozilla.org. This will
automatically direct all replies to the newsgroup with no effort at all
on his part. Additionally, he won't find his email inbox clogged up with
hundreds of messages on topics of minimal interest. Mike, if you choose
this option, don't be scared when SM asks to download 59,630 message
headers. It's only downloading the headers, not the whole messages. You
only download a whole message when you choose to view it by clicking on
its header in the list.
