You downloaded a program to delete duplicate files on what? The C Drive?
If the answer to this is yes, and you just let the program delete
whatever duplicate files it found based on some criteria you didn't
mention then you likely screwed up Windows. SM is the least of your
problems. You're going to need to repair Windows using the System File
Checker or the Repair option after booting from the CD.
Thanks to all who responded - despite my idiocy and ignorance and with
your help I seem to have got it working again and with all the profile
material intact. Thanks guys.
