Apparently I formulated it in a way that was easy for you to misunderstand, so let me reformulate it:

"we can still send future updates *with a new certificate* even once the current certificate of our update server expires".

Sounds like a planning issue:

It was. We didn't anticipate back when we added the restriction of certificate roots that we could run into this problem. We now need to try and solve the problem as well as we can and shipping this update was the best way to do that. If we would have realized the problem any earlier, solving it would have been less of a hassle.
