Agreed. If æsthetics matter, then pick a small number of commonly available fonts that contain all of the glyphs that you need. But Ray_Net seems interested only in having the glyphs displayed correctly (where "correctly" is defined as you will); after all, WingDings is hardly going to match Palatino Linotype for x-height, optical density, or any other criterion that you can think of !
