Only pop-up/redirect I had was when I hovered over the lower left item of the bar at the bottom of the philly.com link. With AdBlock Plus disabled it showed an ad for Verizon, with it enabled it still opened but was blank.

If you are getting Netflix ads, I recommend the Adblock Plus extension.
