OK - I'll try to make sense of this.
When you go to, let's say, a financial webpage and log in you are furnishing a
user/password to the main log-in page.
This page after it accepts your log-in information usually has links to other
pages such as: Your Preferences; Monthly Statement; Bills Paid; etc.
To facilitate your operation the user/password you logged-in with is passed to
the Sub-domain (URL of the link)saving you the time and effort to re-log into
the new domain.
This now creates an entry in your Password file which will have the same Host
Name as the original log-in site, but with a sub-domain of the link's URL.
Now you have two entries with the original Host Name.
Go to another page following a link and the same process will occur. Now you
will now have three entries with the original Host Name URL: and a different
Sub-domain URL.
Think of this file as a spread sheet. Column 1 has the Host Name URL, Column 2
has the User Name; Column 3 has the Password, and Column 4 has the Sub-Domain
URL.
When you say 'Delete Host Name URL entry' the system looks down Column 1 and
deletes all rows of the entered Hostname since other info in the rows is now
invalid.
Not knowing if there is only one of these names in the spreadsheet, the software
continues down the rows and removes ALL entries with the delete URL name.
Simple - No? (Not necessarily exactly the way SM works but probably close).
