If you bottom post and the screen is full, no one will see your post unless they scroll to the bottom. If they have already read the previous posts in the thread, they don't need to read them again. They will just want to see the most recent response. By having the most recent at the top, no scrolling is needed, and the threads can be scanned faster.

you put your reply above the quoted text, rather than below.

Rest assured, top-posting vs bottom-posting is *not policed* in here.
Message content is much more important than message format. So long as
your messages are polite, respectful, helpful, and on topic, it doesn't
matter if it is top-posted, if nothing is trimmed, or if it's in HTML.

Requests about format just take focus away from the reason why we're all
here: to help each other use SeaMonkey. :)
